July/August 2019 Newsletter

DEAR FRIENDS,

This is Whitney. I’m thankful for the opportunity to write and share my heart in this newsletter. We hope you have enjoyed hearing from different members of our ministry so far in 2019. As I write, we have just returned from vacation at the beach. I spent a lot of time on our balcony overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. I marveled at water so clear you could see groups of stingrays and schools of fish glittering on the surface. As I enjoyed the beauty, God spoke to my heart, gently using His creation as a reminder of His love for me.

I began to think about the waves that crashed over and over on the shore. They were there, wave after wave, even when I wasn’t watching them. Even now as I’m hundreds of miles away, the waves are consistent. I thought about the deep dark waters filled with life just below the surface. For me, it feels impossible to look out over a sparkling ocean, as far as my eyes can see, the line where water meets the horizon, the gentle slope along the edges following the curvature of the earth, and not feel so very small.

The ocean is beautiful. Its size is staggering. It is mysterious, teaming with unknown life. It is powerful, able to level whole towns when a storm is raging. The ocean is called to glorify its Creator. And it does a great job. In fact, we see the ocean over and over in Scripture as an example of nature bringing praise to the power of its Creator. Psalm 89:11-13 says “Let the sea roar, and all its fullness…For He is coming to judge the earth…And the peoples with His truth.” Day in and day out it pursues that end, allowing its beauty and power to remind us of Him.

And here is what God whispered to my heart as I gazed at the water below. The ocean and all its beauty and power doesn’t compare to what I see in you. This truth stopped me in my tracks. God wants to use me for His glory. He wants to use me to show off His beauty and power.

More than anything I want to bring Him glory! I want my life to look like the ebb and flow of the waves on the sand, consistent, faithful to meet with Him, surrender to Him, and serve Him, even when no one is looking. I want my life to be full of depth and teaming with life filled up with God’s Word, the Holy Spirit, and time spent in His presence. I want to be surrendered to His power, so like the ocean, I can move mountains when His hand is upon me.

In my small, mundane life, in the ebb and flow of my everyday routine, even in the midst of my weaknesses and great imperfections, I want to join with the ocean, with all of nature, and declare the glory of my great Creator. I hope you will experience God in the beauty of His creation this summer—His glory is all around us!

We are continually blessed by your love and support!

A NOTE FROM DAVID AND LAGENE

Our whole family, including Dave, Sarah, and the kids, has just returned from a few days in Panama City Beach, Florida. Getting the kids and grandkids all together in one place is always a joy for Lagene and me. We stayed in a place called Splash which allowed Lagene to be able to get on an elevator, go to the bottom floor, and walk out into a covered water park so that she could watch the grandkids play. She is slowly but surely getting better. She will be starting physical therapy this week and is looking so forward to getting all of her strength back. I am excited about our Harp’s Homecoming day. It will be here before we know it. This will be our 32nd year in full time music evangelism. I sincerely hope that you will make plans to come and be with us on this special day. It is always special for us to see old and new friends.

A NOTE FROM NICK AND JULIE

Addy and Jude continue to bring us so much joy! They are so excited to meet their new sister. They talk about her and pray for her every day. The adoption process continues to move right along. We’ve passed 2 out of 3 steps that approve us for the U.S. Immigration side of things. After that final approval, it shouldn’t be too long before we enter the India court systems. We would love to have “Journey” home by Christmas, but we are trusting the Lord’s timing. Please pray for her health as there are some medical needs that will need attention, including some surgeries. We also have another payment coming up of around $11,000. So far, God has provided for every payment due through our fundraisers, and we are trusting He will continue to provide. Thank you for your continued prayers! AN UPDATE ON DAVEY AND SARAH

We were thankful to spend time with Davey, Sarah, and the kids in Florida. It is always a blessing to see the cousins interact not just as family but as friends. Davey continues work this summer and will start his new semester in August. Sarah is busy at First Baptist Church New Orleans helping plan summer activities including VBS. The kids are excited for summer fun like VBS and Camp Winshape. At the end of the summer, Lailey will be entering 5th grade, Maddox 3rd grade, and Avonlea preschool. Please continue to pray for their family. Visit their website at www.daveyandsarah.com

HOW YOU CAN PRAY FOR THE AKINS

Have you ever heard an Akins song, message, or testimony from our family over the years that has touched you, or maybe someone in your family has accepted Christ through our ministry? We have many prayer requests and needs as we continue trying to reach a world that is changing every day. One of the most important things you could do for us is to pray about becoming a monthly supporter of our ministry. It would help us to fight for the family like we’ve never fought before and allow us to go to churches that couldn’t normally afford us. The irony is that these churches, in many cases, are the very churches that need our ministry the most. Your support, no matter how large or small, would be such a blessing to our ministry and I know that God will bless every gift that you give in His name.

MONTHLY SUPPORT

It’s now easier than ever to make a one-time or monthly donation to our ministry. We appreciate each and every financial gift. If you feel led to become a monthly supporter we consider you a part of our family and ministry. Let us know you want to support us monthly with your first gift and as a token of our appreciation we will send you a copy of all of our current CDs and DVD as well as any that we release in the future.
